The historical brand Goodyear will return to european competition after being the brand’s most successful in Formula 1 with 368 Grand Prizes won up to 1998.
The main trademark of the american Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, which in Europe is present with the british Dunlop will provide tires for prototypes LMP2 and GT cars in the FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC), which includes the 24 Hours of Le Mans, a marathon won on 14 occasions by cars equipped with Goodyear tyres.
Goodyear has developed for over a year, a new range of tyres for Le Mans prototypes and the Gran Turismo in its european centers of Hanau (Germany) and Colmar-Berg (Luxembourg). The debut is scheduled for the month of August on the occasion of the 4 hours of Silverstone.
“The dynamic of these races (ranging from 4 to 24 hours) makes the strategy and the tyre choice of the fundamental elements and represents an exciting challenge for our team of research and development of innovation centres european of Goodyear. Initially we will focus on the competition for sports car and then we can put in practice the knowledge learnt in other categories of the competition, which may be made in the endurance, or in other series,” says Ben Crawley, Director of Motorsport at Goodyear.
