DTM 2019, at the Norisring for the fourth round

At a distance of exactly one month from the appointment of Misano (the only stage of the tricolor calendar 2019), which saw also the “guest star”, with Andrea Dovizioso, the DTM is preparing to get back on track. This weekend will be the 2.3 km of track of the Norisring to accommodate the fourth of nine rounds. On the historic circuit which is located inside the city of Nuremberg, here in the role of the leader of the championship, will be René Rast. The rider of the Audi Sport Team Rosberg took two victories, climbing on the podium on four occasions and confirming as one of the fastest in absolute (double pole on the track named after Marco Simoncelli, and two times in the front row at Zolder).

Four winners out of six races

Four pilots scored in the six races up to now in the tournament. Among these, there is the austrian Philipp Eng, who has won a success in Belgium, at the wheel of the BMW M4 Team RMR, now second in the overall standings with just ten points to retrieve. And it is a comparison between the “titans” that animates the series reserved for the spectacular cars driven by the engine 2 litres of the new generation (4 cylinder turbo over 600 hp) and up to 2023, definitely rubber Hankook, with the two German manufacturers competed for the primacy. Again, speaking of Audi, should be noted the triumph achieved in the second race at Misano by Nico Müller. The swiss broke the ice, winning his second victory in the DTM after a long fast; curious to note that the first dated back to three years ago, when it was imposed at the Norisring. A track with a “friend” then, for the 27-year-old of Abt Sportsline, now third in the overall ranking 17 lengths by Rast.

With a gap of nine points, behind him there is still a BMW rider, or Marco Wittmann. The two-time champion in the DTM, has opened the season by capturing the success in the first race at Hockenheim and subsequently repeated at Misano, where he, however, collected his first retirement after being involved in an accident. A “zero” at Zolder, following the drive through the discounted in Race 2 for the contact I had with Robin Frijns. The latter, together with Mike Rockenfeller, Germany will be another of the pilots of the squadron Audi to keep an eye on. Like Bruno Spengler, driving in BMW Team RMG, in search of his first podium of the season. The podium on which, however, it rose for the first time on the occasion of the trip to the adriatic Loïc Duval, when he finished third in Race 1 the RS 5 of Audi Sport Team Phoenix. And the podium, where they had a “sporadic” appearance also Joel Eriksson, the second in Belgium with the BMW Team RBM, and Jamie Green, who always Zolder has scored a third placing behind the wheel of another car of Audi Sport Team Rosberg. This last is ready to get back on track after being forced to skip the stage of Misano because of an appendicitis.

Aston Martin in search of glory

Expected to be a ransom, there is also the ex-Formula 1 Timo Glock, which is not so far managed to do better than the fourth-place finish at Hockenheim with a M4 DTM BMW Team RMR. Behind the Aston Martin, which did see some initial growth signal. Even if, for the moment, the best result reached by the English House is the sixth place of Jake Dennis got in the second round in Zolder.

Revved up for Friday
