Porsche 718: the 6-cylinder engine for Boxster and Cayman GTS

BACK to THE 6 BOXER – Submitted in 2017, the Porsche 718 Boxster GTS and 718 and the Cayman GTS have been renovated for the “model year” 2020: the most important novelty is, without a doubt, the farewell to the boxer engine 4-cylinder turbo engine of 2.5-liter 365 HP, instead of which we find a 6-cylinder aspirated. Is the boxer 4.0 is already being used for the more sporty, the 718 Spyder and 718 Cayman GT4, with 20 HP less (goes from 420 to 400 HP) and 420 Nm of torque. The 4.0 is able to reach the 7,800 rpm, with a sound that is at the discharge more engrossing than the 2.5 in the old model, often criticized for this aspect. In the course of the 6 cylinders there are a few solutions that improves efficiency, such as direct injection of gasoline, the anti-particulate filter for the reduction of emissions and the system to turn off the pistons, 3 cylinders when driving conditions allow it.

There IS ONLY THE MANUAL – Along with the naturally aspirated engine will be very appreciated by the “porschisti” the 6-speed manual gearbox, the only one available. This, however, results in a drop in performance: the new Porsche 718 Boxster GTS and 718 Cayman GTS need 4.5 seconds to shoot from 0 to 100 km/h, while those with the 4 cylinder engine and the robotized gearbox PDK twin clutch 7-speed gearbox used in 4.1 seconds. The maximum speed is 293 km/h, slightly higher compared to the Porsche 718 GTS with the 2.5.

THE ACKNOWLEDGE FROM the BLACK one – The new Porsche 718 Boxster GTS and 718 and the Cayman GTS have a tough appearance, but not extreme, where stand out are the wheels of 20”, the ride height lowered by 2 inches), and a series of external parts black: as the fog lamps, the front air intakes, the outer part of the rear spoiler, the taillights and the central area of the particular rear waistband.
