Persistent rumors indicate that the announcement of the postponement of the GP in the next few weeks, but at the moment, organizers say they are optimistic. François Dumontier, responsible for the management of the GP, explains to Autosport: “We are in contact with the local authorities, the city and the government. The race for time is on the calendar as programs, on the 14th of June. We are optimistic, but also realistic”. Because Montreal is a circuit semi-permanent, the decision has to be taken with a need to advance: “We still have some weeks – I would say two or three – before it’s time to start installing the tribune”.
“If we were to take the decision to postpone the event, it would be a choice shared with the F1, taken after the Easter weekend,” specifies Dumontier. In the case of a referral, the hard fall, the canadian would make impossible the dispute of the race after September. “The side of our we can say that it is not feasible to organize the race after mid-October,” says Dumontier. In any case, “if it were necessary to postpone the event we will do so; if we were to organize the race, we should do so in a safe environment for riders, spectators and workers to the jobs”.
