The pandemic of the coronavirus, in addition to having serious consequences on people’s lives and the national economy, is putting the emphasis on imortanza skills in tackling the current health emergency. And just by the experts, in various fields, comes a wealth of data, statistics, indexes, numbers are fundamental not only to implement the measures of contrast, but also in order to outline a picture of the situation in view of the immediate future, of a possible phase two. The Foundation of Hume, for example, publishes a daily bulletin that measure the state of the pandemic and provides a framework of the health situation. A similar tool has been developed by the Ihs, Markit, company research, author of numerous macro-economic indicators and studies on the automotive sector.
The index of the crisis. Specifically, the experts at Ihs have developed an index in order to outline the impact of the pandemic on the activities of the automotive all over the world: it’s called the Automotive Manufacturing Disruption (AMD). This is based on the production volumes of the Houses and revenues of the individual supplier, and leverages the research conducted by the University of Oxford to keep track of the measures in place in each Country. The index takes into consideration five factors: the strict of the facilities; limitations on the movement of people and goods; the closing of schools (which affects the availability of personnel); the restrictions in public transport; controls on air travel. The calculations consider, then, the severity of the measures and the geographic scope of their application.
The scale of values. The values of the index are between 0 and 100, where 0 corresponds to no specific measure against the Covid-19, and 100 to a regime of total block. Between zero and one hundred, including six intervals of “disruption”, a term in English that can be translated in various ways but that in essence indicates the damage caused by an external event. The range from zero to twenty indicates “the damage is very low, from 20 to 40 “damage low”, 40 to 60 “average damage”, 60 to 80 “high damage” and 80 to 100 for “damage, very high”.
In the current situation. The index has started to move in the area of the “average destruction” (AMD more than 40) following the imposition in mid-march of insulation measures in Italy, Spain and France, and over 60 on march 24, with the block of India. The 7 of April, the value of stationed on 63,8 points for the car manufacturers (62,8 the day before) and 62,6 for suppliers (63,8). Damages are, therefore, high, but still far from the situation of the block the total of 100 points, which the Ihs excludes calling it unrealistic in the light of the measures taken so far.
The more Homes damaged, according to Ihs. This is true for the two macro-sectors of the constructors and of the suppliers, but the Ihs provides a picture of the individual automotive groups up to date-6 April. The House is more exposed to a greater level of damage, with 84,5 points, turns out to be the French PSA, because of the high links with the governmental measures transalpine. Follows, with 82,3 points, the Suzuki, for its dependence on Japan and India. The index stood at eur 70.7 points for the Fiat and Chrysler, to 68.7 for the group, Hyundai/Kia, 67.8 for the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi, to 66.8 for the Ford, to 63.2 for the Volkswagen group, 63 for the Daimler. Follow the BMW (60,4), Toyota (60,3), the GM (59,9), Honda (57,9) and Geely (47,2).
