Our itineraries for trips outside of Phase 2 today, move in Piemonte, with a round in the Canavese area from Turin. A good opportunity to take a trip between small lakes and castles of savoy. With a word of warning: always check before travelling to museums, churches, and places of interest suggested are open.
It often goes in the middle, in the Canavese. Indeed, when traveling to the ski resorts of the Aosta Valley, it always passes. Typically, with lack of attention. At the maximum, the less distracted they will notice that the landscape is particularly green. Then throw a look at a couple of castles of a certain grandeur. But hardly will decide to exit the highway. We, however, we recommend you do so: about twenty kilometers from the exit of Turin the North, leave the A5 motorway at San Giorgio Canavese and head to Caluso. To reach Masino, the first destination of great interest, there would be a fast road, but you take the s.p. 84, which, by tapping the Lake of Candia, leads to Vische: the unspoiled scenery that will accompany you will be a good visiting card of the Canavese area. Then take the s.p. 81 for Strambino, where you have to turn to the right on the s.p. 56, which crosses the Dora Baltea river. On the right the Castle of Masino, pale-green. Here is’azeglio, with the residence already owned by Massimo D’azeglio and in the background, the straight profile of the Greenhouse, relief terminal moraine, which connects the mountains above Ivrea, the hills around the Lake of Viverone. And now, go to that mirror of water, dominated by a few small art nouveau villa and edged by a handful of small beaches.
Pass to Ivrea. Then go back on your steps to point to Ivrea, a city that longs for the splendor of Olivetti, with the wealth that was derived, but that it offers visitors an intriguing mix of the old and the modern. The first is represented by the streets of Palestro, and Arduino, from the elegant Teatro Giacosa, from the Cathedral, with its memories of the carolingian age. The second, more quiet, punctuated by the seven thematic stations of the Museum of modern architecture, on a path of two kilometers, shows how much he has made of the Olivetti on the subject of architecture, urban planning, industrial design and advertising graphics.
To Agliè. Leaving the “capital” of Canavese, take the s.p. 222, that goes half way up the coast from Loranzè, then tap the Castle of Parella, reopen in 2017 after a restoration, and you arrive in Castellamonte, where to attract your attention to the Rotonda Antonelliana, the remains of the grandiose project of Alessandro Antonelli: the making of a church that would be second only to the basilica of St. Peter. The itinerary ends in Agliè, where guests can visit the Villa il Meleto, the house where Guido Gozzano spent the holidays, and the castle, residence of the savoy part of the Unesco world Heritage site: the spectacular park, the countless treasures – by the eighteenth-century stuccoes in the entrance hall of the sixteenth-century frescoes of the dance – that adorn the more than 300 rooms.
To see: the castle of Masino. If there is a place that lets you understand how beautiful the Canavese, the one is the Castle of Masino. Not so much – or not only – to the castle itself, as for the 360-degree views that it offers from the hill on which it is located. There is everything in the Canavese, at the foot, or at the least the best part of this, the most intact and preserved: green, green and again green, with the belt of the Alps to the west and to the north and the barrier of the Serra morainic, which slopes down towards the great plain, to the north-east. One unforgettable show. Then of course, there is also the castle – since 1987, property of Fai – e is not a small thing. Of medieval origins, was transformed, between the ‘600 and ‘700, in a residential dwelling. Are thirty the frescoed rooms, which celebrate the glitz. You go to the red Lounge, with her precious damasks, to room, dominated by a pool table, a nineteenth-century including frescoes of the ‘600, up to that marked by historians, heralds of the family. And then the collections of miniatures and porcelain, 25 thousand ancient volumes of the library, the paintings of figurative art in lombardy for the Room of the ambassadors of Spain, portraits of famous writers, framing the Gallery of poets. On the whole, the ballroom, housed in the circular tower of the ‘500, which include a spectacular chandelier of Bohemian crystal and whimsical landscapes heraldic frescoes in 1730. In short, is a refined jewel of history and art, the Castle of Masino. And outside, not least, how to attraction, the English park of 24 hectares, designed in the’800, that gives you the best in spring, when sprouting cascades of flowers of every shape and color. An avenue of lime trees leads to the second labyrinth of Italy by extension, with its 2 thousand plants of hornbeam shaped. Remain to mention the stables of the eighteenth century, where they are exposed to the twelve carriages of the EIGHTEENTH and NINETEENTH centuries.
