F1: Mercedes W11 is dressed in black against racism

The Mercedes W11 in Austria will be something new that goes beyond the technical innovations: the single-seater from the team of Brackley at the Red Bull Ring will have a livery in shades of black, that will keep for the rest of the season 2020. The radical change of color scheme – the Mercedes in Formula 1 has always used the silver – wants to be a message against racism. Lewis Hamilton and Valtteri Bottas, also wear the black suits, and change the design of their helmets.

The livery of the previous remain in the green water of the Petronas and the bordeaux of the new sponsor INEOS, in addition to the monogram with the Stars with three points, one of which, red, is a tribute to Niki Lauda. On the halo W11 camp the written “End racism”, let’s end racism. But Mercedes has no intention of going beyond appearances, and launching a program of inclusion by the end of the year to increase the diversity within the team: now only the 3% of the workforce belongs to a minority.

“Racism and discrimination have no place in our society, in our sport and in our teams: this is a fundamental principle at Mercedes. But to have the beliefs and the mindset right is not enough if we keep silent, ” declared the team principal of Mercedes, Toto Wolff -. We want to use our voice and our global channels for sostentere respect and equality. The Silver Arrows raced in black for the entire season 2020, in order to show our commitment in increasing the diversity in our team and in our sport. We do not want to deprive us from our failings in this field, nor ignore the progress that we still need to do: our livery wants to be a symbol of our determination to act”.
