The regions participating in the agreement of the Po Basin air quality – Lombardia, Emilia-Romagna, Piemonte and Veneto, have decided to postpone to next year the block of cars Euro 4 Diesel which would have had to take from October 1, 2020.
The stop to the cars diesel Euro 4 in the regions affected by the agreement has been moved to 1 January 2021.
They decided the regional counsellors during the construction of the table of the Po Basin, which are held by video conference: “in View of the delicacy of the theme, the presidents of the Regions had already been heard in the last few days to share this choice, i.e., the sliding of the block of euro 4 diesel from the first of October, as would be expected from the agreement of the Po Basin, the first of January 2021, and this is supported by a variety of reasons. The first is that we are in a state of emergency extraordinary linked to the Covid, that has had some effect”, it has been reported by the councillors.
“There has been a lesser amount of pollutants emitted into the atmosphere (during the lockdown, ed.). There are also the considerations on the extension of the emergency until the 15th of October and the uncertainty of what the future will be, especially from the economic point of view. In the autumn there will certainly be constraints to the use of local public transport, also linked to the rules on the spacing and the protection of the health, that will make for safer travel on buses and in private vehicles compared to public. In addition, the persistence of the smartworking necessarily reduce the mobility of workers. It will be important to work not only on mobility, but also on other measures, including certainly on heating systems, especially in biomass, which we have seen to be the most critical point for dust, as well as mobility remains the most critical point for oxides of nitrogen”, it was said at the end of the work.
